Set up and launch your store
The setup wizard in six steps: branding, design, a first product, payments, shipping or pickup and delivery, then launch. What must be in place before your store opens, and how to tell its status on every page.
On this page
Before you start
- A store you created on the sign-up page.
- The permission for each step: a member without it sees “Ask the store owner to do this step.”.
After you create the store you reach Set up your store: a full page with no sidebar and the progress bar of the six steps at the top. Each step has Back, Skip for now and Save and continue, and a “?” beside its title that explains what the step does. Do this later at the top takes you to Home without losing what you saved.
The wizard’s steps
Step 1: Branding
In Make it yours, upload a Logo (PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG), add a Logo for dark backgrounds if you like, check the store name, then choose a Main colour and an Accent colour or one of the Suggested colours. The logo is required to finish the step.
Step 2: Design
In Choose your home page you find the templates suggested for what you make, the first marked Best match. Click Use this design and the template fills with your categories and products and goes live as your store’s home page. To see others, open See all templates; to skip the step, click Keep the default home page.
Step 3: First product or first menu item
Type the name and the Price, choose the Category, then click Save and publish. For a shop the Photo is required, and you can leave Quantity in stock at
0to add stock later. For a restaurant the photo is optional, and if your plan includes the Moving POS connection you also see Import my menu from Moving POS.Step 4: Payments
In How will customers pay?, turn on Cash on delivery, Bank transfer with the Bank name, Account name and IBAN, or a provider under Online payments with Set up. At least one method must be on.
Step 5: Shipping, or pickup and delivery
For a shop: turn on shipping anywhere in your country for a flat fee and enter the Shipping fee, add Free shipping on orders over an amount if you like, or turn on Offer store pickup. For a restaurant: enter Your branch and its Opening hours, then turn on Pickup, Delivery or both, with the Delivery fee and Delivery time.
Step 6: Launch
In Ready to open?, check the Before you launch list, click Preview store to see your real store in a new tab, then click Launch store. If you aren’t ready, click Stay in maintenance. Before launching you can also tick List my store in the Moving Stores directory; listing never holds up the launch.
When you can launch
The Before you launch list says exactly what keeps the store from launching; each item is Done or To do, with a Set up button. It shows in the Launch step, on Home, and in Settings › Store › General until the first launch. The store launches once all of these are in place:
- A logo, and the store name in its default language.
- At least one active product.
- At least one payment method turned on.
- For a shop: an active shipping rate or a pickup location. For a restaurant: a pickup branch, or a delivery branch with an active delivery zone.
- For a restaurant: opening hours on every branch that takes online orders, because a branch with no hours counts as open 24/7.
- A confirmed email address, for the first launch only.
Launch store always opens a confirmation. When everything is ready it asks whether to launch your store and shows the address it opens at; click Launch now. When something is missing it says Your store can’t launch yet and lists each gap with a link to fix it. After a launch you see Your store is open with your store’s link.
The email confirmation step
Before the first launch the list includes Confirm your email address, with the address we sent the link to. Open the link on any device, then click I’ve confirmed it. No email? Click Send the link again and check your spam folder. If the item says we can’t send emails right now, click Contact support.
The setup checklist on Home
If you leave the wizard, your progress waits in the Set up your store card on Home. It lists the wizard’s steps, among them Arrange your home page, which opens the Design step, plus optional ones: Invite your team, Connect your own domain and, for restaurants, Connect Moving POS. Click Start to open any step, or Skip on an optional one. Once the required steps are done, Hide this list appears.
Your store’s status on every page
At the top of every dashboard page a badge says whether your store is open:
| Badge | What visitors see |
|---|---|
| Live | Customers can browse and order at your store’s address. |
| Coming soon | The store hasn’t launched yet: visitors see a “Coming soon” page, and only you can see the store, with Preview. |
| Maintenance | You closed it for a while after launching: visitors see a maintenance page until you open the store again. |
| Closed | Visitors can browse, but they can’t order. |
Click the badge to see what visitors see, before the launch how many things are left or “Everything is ready”, your store address with a copy button, and Preview store before the launch or Visit store after it. From there you go to See what’s left or Launch store on Home, or to Change store status.
Change the status after launch
In Settings › Store › General, choose in the Store status card: Live, Closed or Maintenance. For the last two, write a Message to visitors and save. Every switch back to Live runs the launch checks again, but doesn’t ask for your email confirmation again.
Why do customers see a “Coming soon” page?
A new store doesn’t open until you click Launch store and confirm with Launch now. The badge at the top of the page says Coming soon until then.
Can I go back to the wizard after leaving it?
Yes. Click Start next to any step in the Set up your store card on Home.
I see “Ask the store owner to do this step.” Why?
Your role doesn’t have the permission for that step. Click Continue to move on, or ask the owner for the permission; see Roles and permissions.
I published a design. Why isn’t my store open?
Publishing the home page changes only how it looks. You open the store from the Launch step or with Launch store on Home.
